GO Conference TestimonyWhen I was a little girl, my mom told me about Elizabeth Elliot and the way she was faithful to the Lord to stay and preach the Gospel to the people that took her husband’s life on the mission field. There was one particular poem she wrote that my mom quoted to me throughout my childhood. It was called, “Do the Next Thing.” When I was overwhelmed by life, she would often quote Elizabeth and remind me, “Do the next thing.”
On Friday night at GO Conference, I was overwhelmed seeing the need for the Gospel in unreached places. I asked the Lord how he wanted me to partner with Him in this season, and I heard those words again for the first time in years. “Do the next thing.”
I felt the next thing for me was to simply apply for LifeMission’s Middle East trip in the fall. I knew this was a trip where I could use my heart for prayer and worship to serve the missionaries there and partner with what God is doing through their House of Prayer. I can’t wait to be a part of it.
His assignments may not seem spectacular or radical to you. Actually, I think more often than not, they are simpler than we think. We just have to stay sensitive to His voice and be obedient. - Emily “Looking for Jesus, ever serener,
Working or suffering, be thy demeanor;
In His dear presence, the rest of His calm,
The light of His countenance be thy psalm,
Strong in His faithfulness, praise and sing.
Then, as He beckons thee, do the next thing.”
